MoveOn PAC
Like many Americans I wanted to believe that when George W. Bush was awarded the presidency by the Supreme Court, that he might be a responsible leader and live up to his promise of moderation and representation of all Americans. However, I like many Americans have gone from disappointment to outright anger over this administrations arrogance and bungling. I can only imagine how different the world would be now and how much better off American would be had Al Gore become president.MoveOn PAC
The New York Times > Opinion > Op-Ed Columnist: Shoulda, Woulda, Can
Thomas Friedman is always though provoking and I love the idea of 'The Patriot Tax'...The New York Times > Opinion > Op-Ed Columnist: Shoulda, Woulda, Can: "We would adopt a 50-cents-a-gallon gasoline tax, the Patriot Tax (along with my wife's proposal: free public parking anywhere in America for any hybrid or other car getting more than 35 m.p.g.). A Patriot Tax would help pay for the Afghan and Iraq wars and help finance a Manhattan project to speed the development of a hydrogen economy, enabling the public to make a contribution to the war effort while lessening our dependence on foreign oil."

MoveOn PAC
Gore doesn't hold back in his anger and contempt for Bush. I believe that Gore is not bitter about the 2000 election, but honestly apalled at the course our nation has followed under George W. stewardship. MoveOn PAC

Last night Charlie Rose interviewed Tom Clancy and Admiral Zini regarding Iraq and their new book. This is going to be a fun and insightful interview to watch on ReplayTV tonight.
Cocoa Pete's Chocolate Adventures
The guy who brought us Pete's Wicked Ales now has his own gourmet chocolates. I heard him interviewed last year as he developed the product and was very excited. Now I can go out and sample his confections... mmmm.Cocoa Pete's Chocolate Adventures

Scripting News: 5/22/2004
I completely agree with Dave Winer on this... How can anyone believe the war on Iraq was justifed. What a quagmire and to think that George Bush indicated emphatically to Bob Woodward that there is "no doubt" it is the right course.Scripting News: 5/22/2004: "Another former US general, Anthony Zinni, has spoken out about the war in Iraq, on this evening's 60 Minutes. He calls for the resignation of the civilians in the Pentagon, all the way up to Rumsfeld. I wonder why he stops there. The President is the one who led us to this disastrous war. At this point I wonder how any American can feel this war was worth it. Every justification we've heard was a lie. "

Ole mentions he's using Vonage. I would like to sign up and save some money, but I have heard mixed reports on the quality being noisy.Critical Section - Home: "So today I get an email from Vonage, offering to change my plan from $30/month to $25/month. What! No strings attached. Excellent. They also introduced a new $15/month plan which offers limited calling. If you're still using analog phone lines, you are overpaying for phone service."

BBC NEWS | Technology | Gates backs blogs for businesses It is amazing how 'prescient' Bill Gates is... it's like he's always looking in the rearview mirror and seeing the future. Despite his total lack of seeing technology directions early on, he deserves tremendous credit to productizing successfully.

Critical Section - Home: "Want to know what this is? A URL, of course! Semacode is a way of representing URLs using datamatrix 2D barcodes. This allows 'net-connected cameraphones to scan a code and automatically retrieve the URL. This is going to have a lot of applications... look for them on a product near you, soon. I predict this will be big. "

I think Dave Winer's description of how we'll solicit travel arrangements in five years is spot on. I just hope it happens sooner!
Scripting News: 5/17/2004: "Five years from now, or sooner, you'll be able to enter something like this in a publicly accessible profile. 'I have three months free and $X burning a hole in my pocket. I'd like to have an inspiring experience, in a place I've never been before, but I'd also like to have meals provided (healthy please) and I require a high-speed Internet connection. I like to swim, hike, and have long discussions about the future of writing, journalism, politics, networks, humans. Massages a plus. No smoking.' You'd leave this hanging around, with links to places you've been and what you thought of them. Within 24 hours the offers would start coming in. They'd be pitches of course. Custom-designed for your needs. Perhaps some reconfiguring of an existing resort would be needed, that would be factored into the offer. I think they had something like this service in a Heinlein book. "
